Visit of the President of the Provincial Council of Malaga
On the 17th of May, the President of the Provincial Council of Malaga, Francisco Salado, visited our Hospice in Benalmádena and our Yusuf Hamied Centre for Studies and Research. To welcome him were our Chief Executive & Medical Director, Dr. Marisa Martín Roselló, and our Deputy Chief Executive & Financial Director, Rafael Olalla.
The President of the Provincial Council thanked the Hospice for its work, which gives a "very special kind of caring" to people with advanced and terminal illnesses, and stressed the importance of specialised training in this field. He also expressed the support of the Provincial Council to Cudeca, which is being given in various ways such as the creation of the 'Joan Hunt' award, an award which every year will pay tribute to the founder of the foundation and which will recognise the important contribution of the foreign population to the progress and social, economic and cultural development of the province.
The Yusuf Hamied Centre for Palliative Care Studies and Research, inaugurated at the end of April, was built and equipped thanks to the donation of Dr. Yusuf Hamied. It is the first centre dedicated to the training of healthcare professionals at all levels to improve the quality of palliative care, as well as to develop innovative models of intervention and research.
The training activities that will take place in this centre, will follow the principles and philosophy of integrated care that Cudeca has been developing for 30 years, and will in turn help to finance Cudeca Foundation's activities and allow care to reach more patients.
The building has facilities to cover all the services involved in its training and research work. In fact, there is no other place in Spain that covers these needs in a location that also integrates care work.
