The Minister of Health and Family Affairs visits the Cudeca Hospice
On February 8, the Minister of Health and Family Affairs of the Andalusian Government Jesús Aguirre, visited the Cudeca's Palliative Care Centre in Benalmádena. He was accompanied by the General Secretary of Family Affairs Ana Carmen Mata; the General Director of Social and Health Care of the Regional Ministry of Health and Family Affairs José Repiso; the Manager of SAS Miguel A. Guzmán; and the Provincial Delegate of Health Carlos Bautista.
Members of the Board of Trustees and directors of the hospice showed the facilities and explained in detail the different assistance programmes: Home Care, Psycho-Social Care, In-Patient Unit, Day Care Centre & Rehabilitation, and Counseling and Information Programme. Every year CUDECA assists more than 1,400 people with cancer and other advanced illnesses, offering support to more than 2,200 family members.
CUDECA had the opportunity to explain how the foundation is financed and talked about different aspects of the history of the hospice. Future plans were also explained, highlighting the construction and implementation of the Cudeca Institute for Studies and Research in Palliative Care, which is fully financed by Dr. Yusuf Hamied.
The Andalusian Health Service has contracted out part of the care services provided by the foundation. This contract is essential for CUDECA to continue to form part of the public network of palliative care in the province.Thus to continue to promote and improve its work in palliative care, showing the humanizing potential of its care and ensuring the dignity of every person at the end of their life.
The President of the Cudeca Hospice Ricardo Urdiales thanked for the visit and the interest shown by the Regional Ministry towards the work carried out by the hospice.
