Rambling with Al’s Annual Sponsored Hike & Walk raises funds to help us
This was the third Rambling with Al’s annual fundraising sponsored walk, and a slight change of format in so far as this year there were two different routes, one of almost 19km and a 5km route. In total over €3,050 was raised for four charities – CUDECA Hospice, SOS Animals, AID (Animals in Distress), and ARCH (Andalucian Rescue Centre for Horses).
On Saturday, May 12, 24 of the group set off at 09:30 on their almost 19km hike, in perfect hiking weather. The route took them from the woods of the Los Llanos area of Coin and out into the countryside, past the Dolomite quarry and onto Cerro La Alfaguara, walking alongside the many avocado plantations.
After they were well on their way more volunteers turned up and set up the picnic, and at 12:30 over 40 more walkers set off on the 5km walk around the beautiful Los Llanos woods on the outskirts of Coin. At just after 14:00 both groups returned and the picnic began. The tables were manned by Chris, June and Helen, and several of the group had prepared picnic food that was sold for a donation and a total of over €270 was raised on the catering alone.
During the picnic the raffle draw took place with numerous prizes donated by various members and also the charities. The first of the prizes was a delicious carrot cake that was made by one of the group’s walkers, known as ‘John the Cake’ who also deserves a special mention for his magnificent achievement of raising a total of €1,480 in sponsorship and the raffle, also a special mention to the youngest walker, eight-year-old Emilio, who raised €107 all on his own.
We would like to thank all the walkers, sponsors and volunteers for their generous support.
