Presentation of our Home Care Team Car sponsored by La Cala Resort and La Cala Golf members
On Friday, January 18, we celebrated the presentation of the car sponsored by La Cala Resort and the members of La Cala Golf in our Palliative Care premises.
The event was attended by Sean Corte-Real, General Director and Silvia Ortega, Golf & MICE Account Manager of La Cala Resort. On behalf of the Cudeca Hospice, Joan Hunt O.B.E., Founder and Honorary President; Susan Hannam, Vice President; Rafael Gómez, Assistential Manager; Álvaro Deblas, Doctor and Alicia Nebro, Nurse, both of the Home Care teams, were also present.
Sean Corte-Real, General Manager of La Cala Resort, was enthusiastic when he declared that "everything has been possible thanks to the members of La Cala Golf club who have been helping CUDECA for more than 26 years through charity tournaments and other actions, as they did in the previous edition of their golf tournament dedicating the funds raised to the sponsorship of this vehicle. We hope that this year, towards the month of June, we will be able to celebrate another charity tournament for CUDECA, raising an even higher amount. It was a fantastic job, not only on the resort side, but of the golf partners, a group with a great willingness to help and collaborate with great causes". He also wanted to remember the spirit of solidarity of FBD Property & Leisure, owner of the resort, "an Irish company very committed to events and charity events”. Ángel Krebbers, Communication and Fundraising Manager at the Cudeca Hospice, was also very grateful for "the generous donation that the members of La Cala Golf and La Cala Resort have decided to allocate to CUDECA so that we can continue with our mission in palliative care. Without the help of committed people such as La Cala Resort and La Cala Golf it would be very difficult for us to continue caring for patients for free”.
After the presentation, the group went on to make a visit to the palliative care center by the hand of Dr. Rafael Gomez, our Assistential Manager , so that they could know a little more in depth what palliative care is about and how we work. He also explained that "the number of kilometers traveled by each of the cars of the Home Care teams grows as the number of patients; in a year, a car can travel more than 50,000 km and visit more than 300 patients each month”.
La Cala Golf and its members raised the funds thanks to the Copa Cudeca Golf Tournament held on June 2, 2018 at La Cala facilities. Thanks to this sponsorship, we will be able to cover the cost of the car of a Home Care team that travels the province of Malaga in order to assist patients at home.
In addition, La Cala Golf has been helping us for more than 26 years with a great variety of solidarity initiatives over the years, including raising the awareness of many of its members to our cause. At least, one tournament to benefit CUDECA is organised, publicised and managed by La Cala Golf and its members every year since 1992.
A "Special Kind of Caring" at home
Our Home Care teams care for people with cancer and other advanced diseases in their homes providing the medical care, psychological and social support that they and their families need.
We have 7 teams, each made up of a nurse and a doctor specialised in palliative care, and they are complemented by psychologists and social workers to offer care adapted to each patient's situation.
Each year our vehicles travel more than 72,000 kilometres to care for more than 1,392 patients at home.
In the last 5 years, the total number of patients attended through its different Assistance Programmes (Home Care, In-patient Unit, Day and Rehabilitation Unit, PsychoSocial, Councelling and Information) has doubled from 700 to 1,400.
