Patients and Cudeca medical staff take a trip out to the Malapesquera Beach in Benalmádena

In September, Cudeca Cancer Care Hospice had the opportunity to organize a trip to the beach Malapesquera. The patients described the day as "the most beautiful in recent years" with statements like "we had a wonderful day full of different emotions," and "thank you for letting me enjoy this beautiful day."

At the Malapesquera beach in Benalmádena Costa, the Benalmádena Civil Protection has installed an area for people with mobility difficulties. The facility has special wooden access panels to facilitate use, hammocks, parasols, toilets and outdoor showers with hot water. Also available are special crutches to walk on the sand and water and special wheelchairs to facilitate bathing in the sea, all supervised by qualified life guards.

The staff of the Hospice Day Care Centre visited the beach a few days earlier to see of what benefit the installations could be for our patients, making sure it was perfect and safe for them to enjoy a fun day out.

A Red Cross volunteer and avid Cudeca supporter, kindly offered to transfer the patients to the beach and back.  We also received the support of the lifeguards and Cudeca medical staff and volunteers, who accompanied the patients on their day out.
After bathing in the sea, the patients relaxed in the shade with an aperitif and exchanged experiences and their desires to repeat the event in the near future.

Cudeca appreciates the support of the Benalmádena Town Hall, Paco Portillo, Nurse of the Municipal Health Service, José Baena, Red Cross volunteer and the volunteers of Cudeca, Hazell Bradshaw, Manuel Ortiz and Tracey Maloney for making this day possible.
