Open-air Yoga class raises 600€ to help us
Over one hundred people, of all ages, gathered at the Arroyo de la Miel’s Municipal Sports Centre on Saturday, May 26 for the Yoga Solidario charity event, raising 600€ for our hospice.
On hand to support the event was Town Councillor for Sports, Joaquín Villazón, who was impressed by the number of yogis who had come along to help us, and he encouraged everyone to take part in this type of activity, “which is so healthy and is all for a good cause”.
Organiser and Manager of the Arroyo de la Miel Polideportivo’s Gym, Eloy Diaz Rio-Miranda was hugely pleased with the response of not only gym members but the public in general, with participants coming from Benalmadena and several other Costa towns, to take part in the open-air event that started at 10 o’clock in the glorious spring sunshine.
Leading the 90-minute class, yoga expert, Marta Rubio Castejón, showed how to practice a series of exercises that “work on opening and connecting the heart”, which included simple postures, music, singing, meditation, chants and finally, relaxation to the sound of gongs.
Afterwards all the participants were able to relax and enjoy a cup of tea or coffee and biscuits, courtesy of the sports centre’s cafeteria, Ágora Café.
We'd like to give a special thank you to all those people and businesses who took part in the event, especially Ágora Café; the Benalmadena Sports Board, which ceded the grass pitch; organiser and gym manager Eloy Díaz Río-Miranda, Marta Rubio Castejón who teaches Therapeutic Yoga, Hatha Yoga and Kundalini Yoga at the Arroyo de la Miel sports centre’s gym and Sr. BIG (Alfonso Grande Luengo), who designed the charity yoga event’s poster in a totally altruistic manner.
