Nuria Rodríguez Ropero, psychologist at Cudeca – la Caixa EAPS
Hello, I am Nuria Rodríguez Ropero, psychologist at Cudeca - la Caixa EAPS since June 2023.
My job is to attend to patients and families who are in palliative care in the home care programme, and bereavement care. My aim is to provide emotional support, facilitate communication, coping with the illness, manage possible conflicts, reduce pain, among others, to improve the quality of life of the patient and their family.
Personally, I believe that programmes like this are indispensable in the community and need to continue to increase. Thanks to this programme, support can be given to patients and their families at a crucial and devastating stage of their lives, who do not find such help. For me, being able to accompany someone is a way to help, to make this time more bearable. Emotionally, being able to accompany someone at the end of their life is the most gratifying thing I can experience as a person. The bond created with the patient adds peace, love, tranquillity, gratitude and meaning to life, both for the patient and for the professionals, leaving traces in our lives that teach us how to live. Integrated support means that the patient's health is truly cared for, thus attending to all the patient's needs, which significantly improves their quality of life and allows for a peaceful death, allowing them to say goodbye and close their life.
