  • A time capsule with pictures and memories of today was buried for the next generations to discover.

 

 

50 years anniversary of La Capellanía

 

La Capellanía urbanization was created 50 years ago in the upper part of Benalmádena, on an extension of land on which villas were built with excellent views of the background of Fuengirola. "It was three Belgian gentlemen who bought an estate on the mountain and developed the urbanization", says the administrator of the same, Salvador Román, who says the number of residents currently living there at 357.

 

To commemorate half a century of existence, the neighbors of the urbanization have carried out an act, which has had as main attraction the burial of a 'time capsule' with graphic and written documents that collect how has been the history of this urbanization in these fifty years. All with the idea of  opening the box in another fifty years, and that future generations can learn about the history of La Capellanía when the centenary is celebrated.

 

Julie Belham-Payne, President of La Capellanía commented with joy: 2Community is everything and this is why it’s a pleasure to support Cudeca, our local community hospice”.

 

Terry McEneaney, PR for La Capellanía added: “The help we  received in planning our event  was invaluable, and we are most grateful to Cudeca and Esther in particular”.

 

On her side, Esther Ráez with Communication & Fundraising of Cudeca Hospice expressed how “grateful we feel for this community tobe willing to help in so many ways. All neighbors have come to enjoy the day and give so Cudeca can continue their special kind of caring”.

 

 

 

Along with the 'time capsule', the celebration also consisted of a day of conviviality in which each neighbor brought a typical dish from their country of origin. The mayor of Benalmádena, Juan Antonio Lara, was present at the event, accompanied by other members of the government team, and in which he stressed "the importance of La Capellanía for the development and history of Benalmádena".

 

La Capellanía have put togehter more than € 1,000 that will help the hospice to continue cring for so many at the end of life.
