Cudeca Foundation, Cancer Hospice, Events
On Sunday 24th May, 1.050 people attended the 7th Cudeca Walkathon, with the aim of raising those much needed funds to help Cudeca Cancer Care Hospice continue to add life to days.
Tere were friends of all ages and nationalities and also many dogs who accompanied their owners wearing the walkathon T-shirt!... It was a real success and a prime example of coexistence and solidarity.
Mr. Enrique Moya, Mayor of the Benalmádena Town Hall, was invited to attend the 10km walk and he dedicated a few words of support to the Benalmádena Councillors of Health and Culture, Inmaculada Hernández and José Nieto, and also to Julio Andrade, the Málaga Town Hall Councillor.
An hour later, the 5km and 2km routes were about to commence and accompanying participants on their way were; Mr. Enrique Moya together with the Medical Director of Hospital Xanit International (official sponsor) Sergio Mejías; the Cudeca Medical Director, Dra. Marisa Martín; the Financial Director, Rafael Olalla; and the PR and Fundraising Manager, Rocío Torres.
There were a variety of live acts on stage including: Steve Shapelle, Rob Stevens, Finian, Frankie Valentine, Marimar, and her group of belly dancers, Masquerade, the finalists of the international show “ The Wow Factor”, Oscar the acrobat and the clown, Ronald Mc Donald. There was also unlimited food and drink for all and activities for children thanks to our friends at Exploramás, who once again supported Cudeca totally free of charge.
The winners of the prizes for the largest amount of funds raised went to Enrique Gómez from Cajasol (more than 5.700 euros) followed by Kim & Bente Gottlieb with 1960€, and the group of friends from Bar Pappays with 886€. The prize for the highest number of participants went to Sunny View International School in Torremolinos with 65 students.
Trips, weekend stays in 5* hotels and many other fantastic prizes were distributed among the participants.
Cudeca sends sincere thanks to all the participants, the 80 volunteers that supported the event and all those who have made the Walkathon possible this year, together with the official sponsorship from Xanit International Hospital, the Benalmádena Town Hall Patron of Sports, the Delegation of Málaga, Fundación Cajasol, Mc Donald´s, Exploramás, Coca Cola, Knight Insurance Brokers, Sunset Beach Club, GMG, Logisa, Dumher y la Mancomunidad de la Costa del Sol.
Together we managed to raise over 44.300€ (Gross - funds accounted for up to now), which will help Cudeca continue to offer the cost-free “special kind of caring” to patients with advanced cancer and to their families.
The support of the Community is vital to enable Cudeca to continue adding life to days.
