Cudeca Hospice celebrates the World Palliative Care Day

On 9th October, Cudeca Hospice held its own charity concert “Voices for Hospices" at the Maria Cristina Hall in Malaga, thanks to the invaluable collaboration of the famous pianist Paula Coronas and of the “Fundación Bancaria Unicaja”.

The World Palliative Care Day will take place the weekend of 10th October and is organised by the committee of the Global Alliance of Palliative Care, a network of centres, national and regional organizations that support the development of Palliative Care.

The event was attended by Mar Torres, Technical Director of the Department of Social Rights of Malaga Town Hall; and by Cudeca Hospice, Susan Hannam, Vice President; Dr. Marisa Martin, CEO and Medical Director, and Rafael Olalla, vice CEO and Financial Director.

Dr. Marisa Martin opened the event with Susan Hannam, and Mar Torres, and gave way to the concert piano Paula Coronas, made to delight the whole audience with compositions of Rachmaninov, Scriabin, Debussy, García Abril, grenades, Ocon Lehmberg and Ruiz.

To close the concert, Marisa Martin presented a bouquet of sunflowers, international symbol of palliative care, to Paula Coronas.

Thanks to the solidarity of all, it has managed to raise €1,124.55, which will be used to cover the costs of the Cudeca Assistance Programs, which annually serve more than 1,000 people with cancer and other diseases in advanced stages without curability, and offer support to their families in the province of Malaga.

This year's theme is “Hidden Lives / Hidden Patients", and will focus on the patients living in unique conditions that often struggle with access to palliative care including children, LGBT individuals, HIV prisoners, soldiers and those living in rural settings.
